Donut Holes & The Next Big Thing

Happy Wednesday! Today I'm visiting my lovely friend, Eleni Konstantine over at her Taverna in her Writing Buddy Wednesday slot. Find out what I'm up to at the moment and what's in my immediate future (apart from donut holes and coffee...) (no I cannot tell a lie. Donut holes and coffee are always in my immediate future...)

I've been tagged in The Next Big Thing by fellow Aussie author Alison Stuart who writes fabulous time travel romances and historical novels set during the seventeenth century. Allison's latest release from Lyrical Press is Gather the Bones, descibed as Downtown Abbey with ghosts, from Lyrical Press.

I'm instructed to tell you all about my next book by answering these questions and then to tag between three to five other authors about their Next Big Thing. So here I go!

What is the working title of your next book?

Archangel of Mercy

Where did the idea come from for the book?

It was very odd. After a random comment from my good friend Eleni Konstantine about a new publishing line opening up, this image of a moody, Alpha Archangel just appeared in my mind. He was alone on the outer edge of the universe and refused to either leave my muse alone, or open up and let me know his story for about five years!

What genre does your book fall under?

Erotic Paranormal Romance

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

No idea. I will leave that up to my readers to imagine! (although I could have a lot of fun auditioning actors to play Gabe! (all in the name of research. I suffer for my art).

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Between an angel and a desperate woman comes salvation - and a raw passion that challenges them at every turn.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Archangel of Mercy is published by Penguin's Berkley Heat line and hits the shelves on 4th December 2012.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

This book started out as a novella many years ago and gradually evolved into a full length after several rewrites. So the short answer is - a very long time!!!

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

This book, and the others in the series, are about fallen archangels and the women who capture their hearts. Laurie London,, author of The Sweetblood series, said this about Archangel of Mercy:

"Archangel Of Mercy would appeal to readers who enjoy Nalini Singh and JR Ward. Dark, gritty and erotic. I loved it!”

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

A random comment by a writing buddy, the haunting image of a solitary Archangel on the edge of the universe and the Mayan long calendar :-)

What else about your book might pique the reader's interest?

If you enjoy tortured Alpha heroes, fallen bad ass archangels, sizzling sex and merciless villains then you might enjoy Archangel of Mercy!

I've tagged some of my fellow Romance Writers of the Apocalypse authors to tell you about their Next Big Thing next Wednesday - here are their links so you can check them out!

Maggie Nash - Maggie is doing her Next Big Thing today as well, so pop on over and have a peek!

Enchanted Realms ~ Eleni Konstantine

I'm so happy that today my dear friend Eleni Konstantine's debut hits the cyber shelves! Stormy Divide and Angel Eyes are two novellas in the one gorgeous package of Enchanted Realms, from Musa Publishing.

To celebrate, Eleni is giving away a copy over at her blog Eleni's Taverna - all you have to do is pop over and leave a comment and you're in the draw! And here to whet your appetite are the blurbs. Enjoy!

Stormy Divide

A beam of white light shot into the sky from the middle of the forest, an eerie yellow mist surrounding it. This brightness was a sharp contrast to the darkness of the cold, damp forest, which had never before felt otherworldly. Fierce in its onslaught, the storm raging overhead had given no warning. Was it a coincidence it had arrived at the same time the unusual shaft of light had, like a fitting backdrop?

Thom trekked towards the light’s eerie source when a muffled cry vibrated through the air. He stopped as the hairs on the back of his neck bristled. This was no ordinary sound. Like the storm and light, it did not seem natural.

With caution, Thom tracked the sound to a clearing where the peculiar white and gold light display headed toward the heavens, as if it were trying to find the stars even though it was day, like it needed to connect with the rest of the universe.

Signs of disturbance marred the ground nearest the vivid white beam, as though something had scraped along the dirt. He followed the trail with his eyes and came to a sprawled shape lying haphazardly on the ground. This was the source of the moaning. Gods help me! What in skala was it?

Angel Eyes

He was in my dreams again last night. As he is every night. As he has been since I was orphaned at eighteen. In my dream state, the feeling between us is electrifying. I know we have a history together. I know who we are and what we mean to each other, but upon waking all is lost. And I feel empty.

Sitting on the edge of my bed, I try to recall the images. Once again, it is futile. All I can remember are those dark haunted eyes as they bore into me, their intensity delving into my soul.

Who is he?

Why does he plague my sleep night after night?

Why does he feel so real? More real than anything I have ever known in my entire life. And why do I feel with him a sense of belonging, a sense of...rightness.

Dread and despair fill me. I do not need to be reminded of the lack of this type of connection in my waking life. Especially not today. The day I am to marry a man who is not the one in my dreams.

Why Write Ancient Historicals?

Today I'm having some fun over at my lovely friend Eleni's Taverna, where I'm chatting about how the idea of Forbidden came to me and why I chose to write in an ancient setting. We'd love to see you over there plus there's a copy of Forbidden up for grabs!

Hot Books Up for Grabs!

The book that would not end has ended! Hooray! It's polished and with my CPs, so now I just need to write the blurb and synopsis and what not and I'll send it off to my agent. It's a very weird thing but the minute I got to the end of my edits, my throat started to hurt. Now my throat is killing me and my head hurts like hell so I think this is my body's way of telling me to get away from the computer and rest!!

But before I do I want to share some goodies around, as some friends are giving away free books today yay! As part of the fabulous Eleni-Fest during October, the lovely Anna Campbell is over at Eleni's Taverna having a very rowdy party and a copy of Tempt the Devil is up for grabs for one lucky person who leaves a comment. And Erica Hayes, whose debut urban fantasy Shadowfae is out next week (and Erica will be here next Friday answering my hard hitting questions!!) wants to know what paranormal power you'd choose to take on for a day. For the chance to win a copy of her book, pop over to Literary Escapism!

And for all you zombie lovers (and I know you're out there!) head on over to the weloveya blog where my lovely CP Amanda Ashby is giving away a copy of Zombie Queen of Newbury High!
