A Kind of Magic 20.02.05

Daughter #2 just told me she googled herself and her website popped up, first and second no less. Wow! That was so exciting. I jumped on my computer and immediately googled myself.

Uh, nothing.

Unperturbed, I re-googled, this time adding the word 'writer' after my name. Still nothing (well okay I exaggerate. There were maybe a million hits out there, but I wasn't on the first page!Bwa). So then I tried 'romance writer' then 'contemporary romance writer' and when I still didn't make it I got just a little bit pissed off!

So then I tried one more time, and instead of doing it properly - Christina Phillips - I did this - christinaphillips. I knew it wouldn't make any difference, but hey I had three more minutes to kill before I needed to baste the joint.

Eek! There I was - not my webpage but my blog! - and in the number two spot no less! YAY! Man, I felt so famous, haha! But what's more right underneath was another mention - in my friend Nikki's blog! Omigod! Two mentions on page one!

Okay I admit it is just a little sad that I got so excited by seeing my name in a google search but what can I say - I was excited! I had to go and find my daughter and make her (um, I mean ask her) to google me as well.

Now I'm left to wonder why my webpage didn't show up when I put in Christina Phillips. It's all very mysterious to me. Do I need other key words on my site?

Excuse me. I feel the need... the need to google... my new motto is... go forth and google oneself...

Karen, I can't reply to your email right now because something is "up" with my email so here I am on your blog! I get lots of results when I google my name because a) I used to write press releases for a market research company and a lot of them are still on the net with my contact details on them; and b) I talk about so much different stuff on my blog that it often comes up when people google for things like book titles or authors names among other things. Some of the common searches that lead to me are BBC, script writing, narrowboating, labradoodle, wedding wish, Italian Bride. Your blog is still new but once it's been going for a while you'll find more and more google results for yourself!

Great tips, Nikki. Thanks for sharing! I wonder if I come up under Love, Actually? (haha! will go and check in a minute!)

I'm dying to ask what is a labradoodle? Is it a cross between a labrador and a poodle?

Email still isn't working. Daren is asleep as he worked until 7am so it looks like I'll have to wait until tomorrow. I'm dying without email...

Anyway, I searched for Christina Phillips on Yahoo and you were results three and four! I guess different search engines work in different ways. Try sticking things like the names of your mss in your ramblings.

Yes, a labradoodle is a cross between a labrador and a poodle. Ally Blake had one in her 2nd book and I mentioned it on my blog because I'd never heard of it before!

I found you again! I googled "Sara Hantz" and you popped up on the second page with your link to Sally's blog.

aaarrgggh I just wrote a comment and then it wouldn't post. Can't remember what i said now - apart from i know someone with a labradoodle.

I'll go google myself shortly - my 'real' name you could get a pic but don't know whether Massey has taken it down. I hope so, it's not a good one!!

ok I will fess up here. The other day I asked Mark what he thought a labradoodle was, and he came up with the lab/poodle cross. And I thought he was kidding me! Learn something new everyday. hehe.

They were bred for the labs good nature and the poodle whose hair doesn't fall out.

There are other weird crosses that i've heard of but i can't remember what they are!

OK, I feel the need to now google myself. Does it hurt? Does it feel good? Does one google in the privacy of their own home??? Hmmm...
