E-Publishing Stats

For some ball park figures on how well various e-publishers are doing when it comes to selling erotic romance, EREC (Erotic Romance E-Publishing Companion) has some interesting data.

From one of my loops I was directed to a new blog, Crash and Burn, where the various pros and cons of e-publishing are discussed. The blog says it's for novices and newbies but I found the info there interesting, so will be keeping an eye to see what else is discussed over there.

Finally, advertising. What works, what doesn't? Hop over to Dear Author where the merits of cost per impression versus click ad campaigns are mentioned, along with how ads in romance magazines, banners and online reviews sway (or don't sway) readers into purchasing. It makes fascinating reading, and there are loads of great comments.

What do you think works in terms of online advertising for books, print or e-published?

Wow, this is a really great post, Christina. I know many say that e-pub is for new writers, but that's not always true. Just look at EC's authors. Many of them are long term writers and sell extra well. But still, e-pub is a great way for new writers to break in and be seen. Many who have e-pubbed have gone on to bigger print markets just because of it. And that in itself is a good thing to think about when working on promoting. And of course, some e-pub markets are better than others. In addition to EC, I think TWRP is right up there.

Also a friend who has published around 20 thriller novels with a big print publisher says he believes e-publishing is for sure the wave of the future. And his editor encourages him to write for e-pub too. He says that we as writers should keep that in mind. Let's not knock e-pubs off just yet!

This is always an interesting topic. I love the freedom of e-publishing and the way the publishers give me the chance to write things that just wouldn't work in traditional publishing. I'd like to think the two groups could play nicely for many, many years to come.

What works for online promo? I'm not really sure. I think it's a case of being in the right place at the right time, either online or off. :)

Hey Christina, these are all great links, none of which I was aware of. Thanks for directing me to them!

Four more days until your release, hon!!

Kaye, that's exactly right. Off the top of my head Keri Arthur springs to mind (she started with Imajinn)And yes, definitely some e-pub markets are better than others. Like with everything else it's a question of doing the homework before subbing (I researched TWRP a lot before sending them Foretaste!) Thanks for your thoughtful answer!

Shelley, the freedom offered by e-pubs is also what I love about them. As for the promo I think you're right!!! A lot of it comes down to timing!
