Hot Highland Warrior HER VENGEFUL SCOT #SPeekSunday #erotic #historical

Welcome to this week's Sneak Peek Sunday! Today I'm sharing 6 paragraphs from Her Vengeful Scot, the second book in my Highland Warrior Chronicles set in the ninth century, and which is hitting the cyber shelves this coming Friday - 4th July!

This scene comes directly after Cam and Elise share their first kiss...

“I must go.” Her voice was breathless but she didn’t look away from him, as if searching for an escape route. She stared at him, and he had the strangest certainty that the lingering tendrils of fear that still clung to her were not directed at him.

It didn’t make sense. None of this made sense. He gritted his teeth, fought to batten down the rabid lust that clamored through his blood and only then trusted himself to speak.

“Why?” It was a feral growl and Elise tensed. He had the surreal notion she was bracing herself for scathing insults. What the fuck was he thinking? No man would insult a princess. Certainly no man would insult Elise. He bared his teeth at her in a poor attempt at a smile. “Because I don’t shower you with pretty words?”

She bit her lip. He caught a glimpse of her white, even teeth and the sight sent a shocking spear of need through his groin. But much as he wanted to despise her, he had the uncanny certainty that she hadn’t deliberately led him on.

She had, after all, promised him nothing. It had all been in his mind. But it didn’t ease the fire in his blood or the ache in his balls.

Or the grim knowledge that had he been Ross, this night would not have ended with harsh words or thwarted lust.

Cover Reveal for HER VENGEFUL SCOT #MySexySaturday Hot Highland Warrior

Welcome to this week's My Sexy Saturday. I've been MIA for a while but am now back with some sizzling hot Highland Warrior goodness :-)

Her Vengeful Scot, the second book in my Highland Warrior Chronicles, hits the cyber shelves on Friday 4th July 2014. Today I'm sharing 7 paragraphs of the scene where Cameron MacNeil first kisses Elise, his Pictish princess.

He lowered his head toward her. Her lips parted, a silent invitation, and his mouth captured hers.

Her lips were soft beneath his and his breath stilled as he savored the moment. She didn’t move, either to push him away or draw him farther into her scented heat. A low groan filled his ears and vibrated through his head. The kiss was chaste. Nothing like he had imagined it would be with Elise. Yet his cock hardened as though she had sunk to her knees and taken him into her mouth.

The thought pounded in his mind, a heady counterpoint to the thundering of his heart. He cradled her face and traced her parted lips with the tip of his tongue. A tantalizing hint of spiced wine teased his senses and he couldn’t hold back.

He claimed the short space that separated their bodies. Her breasts crushed against his chest and his erection burned through his plaid. Surely she could feel him? Feel how much he wanted her?

His tongue penetrated her mouth. Her strangled gasp caressed his tongue. His fingers tightened around her face, holding her still as he plundered and explored. She tasted of heaven.

He would go to hell.

He did not care.

Racy #Regency Romance AN IMPROPER PROPOSITION by @AmyRoseBennett #Giveaway!

It's my pleasure today to spotlight fellow Historical Hearts author Amy Rose Bennett to help celebrate her debut release, An Improper Proposition. Congratulations Amy Rose!

Amy Rose is also generously offering an Amazon GC for an ecopy of her novella for one lucky person who leaves a comment on this post :-)

Author Bio:
Amy Rose Bennett has always wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember. An avid reader with a particular love for historical romance, it seemed only natural to write stories in her favourite genre.  She has a passion for creating emotion-packed—and sometimes a little racy—stories set in the Georgian and Regency periods. Of course, her strong-willed heroines and rakish heroes always find their happily ever after.
Amy is happily married to her own Alpha male hero, has two beautiful daughters, a rather loopy Rhodesian Ridgeback and a Devonshire Rex cat with attitude. She is a Speech Pathologist, but is currently devoting her time to her one other true calling—writing romance.

My debut release, an erotic Regency novella was published by Steam eReads in April this year:
An Improper Proposition
Fraternizing with one’s footman—no matter how young and handsome he is—is not the done thing…but Lady Bianca Wells is going to do it anyway…

Widowed countess Lady Bianca Wells secretly lusts after her much younger, rakishly handsome footman Harry Blake. Even though he has been in her employ for six months, she has not succumbed to her indecorous urges to take him as a lover… until one wicked night at an isolated country inn when she throws caution to the wind and offers Blake a wholly improper proposition.

Harry Blake, the bastard son of a duke and governess, is the epitome of the perfect footman, except for one thing—he fantasizes about seducing his beautiful mistress. When Lady Wells proposes that they become lovers for one night only, he is torn. Even though he wants her with every fibre of his being, he suspects that forbidden fruit once tasted, can be awfully addictive. He wonders if one night of passion will be enough, for either of them—especially now that he realizes he might very well be falling in love with his bella Bianca.

But when all is said and done, Blake can hardly refuse such a tempting proposition, no matter how unwise or improper. He just prays that he can put a smile on his mistress’s beautiful face…

Excerpt
Set Up: Lady Wells feels shaken after a drunken patron propositions her for a kiss at the inn she is staying at. Her footman, Blake comes to her aid, then escorts her to her room…
The sooner she dismissed Blake for the evening, the better. For a servant who’d only been in her employ for six months, he read her too well. And she had come to rely on him far too much. This growing familiarity between them was a problem, but one she wasn’t fit to deal with right now.
She turned back to address him and her breath hitched. He really was too handsome to be her footman. Even with his black hair hidden beneath his periwig again, his chiselled jaw, wide mouth and sparkling emerald green eyes set him apart from most other men of his station. Indeed he was as handsome as any young buck of the ton. Or so her close friends repeatedly told her. Those same friends—including Lady Jameson—who also whispered to her that she was mad not to have a fuck or two with him.
Stop gawping at him like a foolish adolescent girl, Bianca. Dismiss him, before you do something you regret.
With a trembling hand, she pushed a strand of her blonde hair away from her mouth and found her voice. “Well, thank you again for your timely intervention, Blake. That will be—”
“Do you have any brandy, my lady?”
She arched an eyebrow. “Why?”
Blake held her gaze. It was one of the things she liked about him so much. He was respectful yet not easily intimidated by her when she played the haughty dowager countess.
“Please forgive my impertinence,” he at last responded, his forehead dipping into a frown, “but you’ve had a shock and it might help. Would you like me to fetch you some from the taproom?”
“No, that won’t be necessary, but thank you.” Now was the time to bid him good night but for some reason, she couldn’t do it. She supposed it was because she found his strong male presence reassuring after what had happened only minutes before. She stepped back from the door, opening it wider to admit him. “But perhaps you could re-stoke the fire for me…Tilly has retired early with a headache.”
“Of course, my lady.”
Bianca shut the door after him and leant against the smooth wood panels, watching him as he removed his white gloves before he bent low to toss several logs into the grate. His wide shoulders strained against the navy blue superfine of his liveried jacket as he moved. Such power and grace for such a tall man. She suspected he’d developed his athletic physique when he’d served as a corporal in Wellington’s army. Not for the first time, she wondered how he would look without his livery. She bit her lip.
Stop behaving like a vixen on heat, Bianca. Tell him to go. Now.
But she didn’t. She crossed to her travelling trunk at the foot of the four-poster bed and after rummaging around for a moment, pulled out a bottle of sherry. Her medicinal sherry, she liked to tell herself. In truth, a nip or two before bed was her one and only vice. Aside from lusting after Blake.
“Would you like some?” she asked, brandishing the bottle. Her cheeks grew unbearably hot. She was crossing into wild, unchartered taboo territory, but she couldn’t seem to stop herself. “Think of it as a thank you…for your chivalry.”
Blake replaced the poker in its stand and frowned, clearly torn. Would he follow her across the line? Bianca’s heart slammed against her ribs as she waited for his answer.
He rubbed the back of his neck with one hand, then met her gaze. “I won’t say no, my lady.”

Restoring Lady Anna - Cover

BOOK SYNOPSIS

When Lord James Eversley is accused of a murder he did not commit, he dresses up as his new brother-in-law’s footman and hitches a ride in their carriage out of town. When it seems they are no longer being followed he begins to relax until a minor accident causes them to stop at a shabby looking inn. As his “master” and his sister sip tea in the scruffy parlour, James comes face to face with Lady Anna, the woman who left him in the dead of night five years before and a familiar looking child.

Lady Anna has accepted her life as Mrs Johnstone, mother of four-year-old Viola, “wife” of Peter, the mentally ill former footman and land lady of a shabby inn on the Great North Road. Her plans for a love match with the handsome Lord Eversley were cruelly snatched away from her five years before. Her ruination means there is no opportunity to return to her family or the ton. When James turns up, dressed as a footman and demanding answers, Anna must decide whether to tell the truth.

James never stopped loving Anna and now he must learn what happened that fateful night that Anna left him heartbroken. With the truth out in the open, he must convince the love of his life to take a chance on him. He wants to marry her and restore her reputation among the aristocracy. But in Regency England reputations are easily lost and difficult to regain. Can Anna trust James enough to do what is right for Peter, despite his actions, her child and most importantly himself? Can James convince Anna to seek the help that Peter needs and return to the ton?

BookExcerpt

“Why did you leave?” he asked.

“I...I... did not have a choice.”

“Were you in love with him?”

“No.” She should lie. She knew she should, but his light blue eyes seemed to bore holes into her very soul and she could not bear to hurt him further. She could not bear to have him think badly of her.

“Then I do not understand why you left. Was it... was... God dammit.” He took a large gulp of his ale and looked around before leaning close. “Was it the bedding? I know you were an innocent and it must have hurt but...”

“No.” She shook her head fervently. Could he really believe that the best night of her life had driven her from him? “That night... it was very special. You were wonderful and kind and caring. I could not have asked for a better lover the first time.”

Relief washed over his countenance before he frowned. “Then why?”

Should she tell him? Could she? “It is too complicated to explain, except to say that it was not my choice and it was not your fault.”

He pushed his long fingers through his blond curls and stared into his ale. “Is he—the footman—still alive?”

“Yes.” He looked into her eyes—the hope that had shone there moments before was gone.

“So you are married.”

“We never married.”

“You live in sin?”

“Yes. I refused to marry him—not even to give my daughter a name. I tell people I am Mrs Johnstone, but there are no legal documents and no marriage. Therefore, you can return to the ton, my lord, and tell them that Lady Anna Kingsley is a whore and has a bastard child.”

Now perhaps he would leave her alone to her miserable life and find someone who would make a proper countess when his father died. She swallowed hard, forcing back the tears. Willed herself to stay strong. She only had to stay strong until the damned ostlers could help Lord Ramsey’s horse.

“Shh! I will be returning to the ton to tell them no such thing. I wished you would tell me what actually happened, if for no other reason than to assuage my fear that it was something I did or said that drove you away. You said you have a daughter?”

“Yes. Viola. She is a pretty little thing but can be quite precocious when she wants to be. She would have made a beautiful debutante when her time came.”

“Mama. Who is this?” She turned to see Viola standing at her side and realised it had been the child who was tugging at her skirts.

****

James stared at the little girl standing next to Anna, tugging on the grey wool skirt. Blond hair, blue eyes and rosy cheeks that reminded him of Rebecca when she was small. She even had the little turn up in her nose that was identical to his sister’s. But, it could not be. This child could not be his? They had made love but once—or at least just one night. But he had not withdrawn as he knew he should. He had been too caught up in the moment—in their love. Had Anna fallen with child that one glorious night, how old would a child be? Three? No—four! Was this little girl four? He had no idea how large or small a child should be at the age of four. He did not come into contact with many children.

But he did not have to ask her age. His sight told him that Viola was his as did something else…instinct perhaps?

He schooled his features so they were unreadable. Years of training to be a gentleman, to show no outward emotion, were now paying dividends.

“This is Lord Eversley, a friend of mine.”

“Oh. Pleased to meet you Lord Evasey.” She bobbed a small curtsey, and he noted that she over extended her back leg a bit like the actors did in the theatre at the curtain call. It was very sweet. The child obviously did not meet many members of the aristocracy. Though it was just like Anna to have taught her daughter to act like a lady in preparation for meeting a viscount or even a duke.

“Very pleased to meet you too, Viola.”

She smiled dazzlingly at him. It really was like being taken back in time to when Rebecca was a child.

“Mama, he’s awake. I heard him shouting.”

“I see.” She turned to James. “I need to go just now. I have things that must be attended to.” Anna stood and looked like she was about to bob a curtsey but seemed to the think better of it, probably remembering he was supposed to be a footman.

He watched her leave, Viola’s hand in hers. He had sired a daughter and all this time he never knew. He did not need Anna to tell him that Viola was his flesh and blood—he knew it with every fibre of his being. If he said it outright, would Anna lie? Could she lie about something as monumental as him having a child? Not the Anna he once knew. But she was harder now—more resilient. He saw it in her eyes. Even though he had sensed she had been on the edge of tears, he suspected Mrs Anna Johnstone did not cry very often. But he must allow Anna to tell him in her own time. There was a lot more to this than a silly lady having her head turned by a handsome footman.

Was the person who had just woken the footman? Why had Viola looked unhappy when she had to announce the footman was awake? And why was Anna the one working in the taproom?

He would find out, and he would not leave this place until he knew the whole truth and certainly he would not leave without his daughter.

AboutAuthor

Em was born and brought up in the Central Belt of Scotland and still lives there. She was told as a child she had an over active imagination--as if that is a bad thing. She's traded her dreams of owning her own island, just like George in the Famous Five to hoping to meet her own Mr Darcy one day. But her imagination remains the same.

Unfortunately, Em was put off reading and writing by school and although she rediscovered her love of reading many years ago, she only tried her hand at writing again in 2011. After a year of writing fan fiction, she wrote an original short story for an anthology. This was followed up with two more shorts and 4 novella length books, all published under a pen name. Having fallen in love with a new sub-genre, courtesy of books by Mary Balogh and Lynsay Sands, she decided to try her hand at her new favourite genre for reading--regency.

Having bitten the bullet, she feels she has found her home in the 19th century, and it does give her an excuse to watch Colin Firth in a pair of buff breeches and riding books ad infinitum.

EXCERPT

I halt in the doorway, taking in Syd's body. Unbelievably, she is back for round two. More unbelievably, I let the little crook into my house again. I still have no idea what I would tell Karl about a hotel charge, though. I will just have to keep an eye on her this time. “You're lying.” She turns to face me. “There's no downstairs. Is your mom that type who shows up every week to do the cooking and cleaning? “Can you stop asking stupid questions?” She blows air through her teeth. “You suck.” “Oh, be quiet.” I bat my hair out of my eyes. “Want some wine?” She drops her purse on the floor next to my bed. “That's more like it.” “Red or white?” “Didn't realize I was in the presence of Dionysus.” She perches on the edge of the mattress. “Red, please.” I consider skipping the drinks altogether and just taking her right there. So many beautiful things await under those clothes, ready to be explored all over again. Instead, I turn around and cross the house to the kitchen. A half bottle of Malbec waits in the fridge. I pour a glass, think better of it, and pour one for myself too. Then I return to the bedroom. She has her shoes off, sitting cross-legged on the bed, but hasn't removed anything else. Thankfully. That's part of the fun. I knock the door shut with my foot and hand her a glass. She sips her wine, looking oddly sophisticated for someone with Ozzy Osbourne eye makeup and enough silver in her ears to take down a werewolf. She peers up at me. “Is it a celebrity?” I stare at her, dumbly. “The person you protect, is it a celebrity?” Her eyes light up. “Oh! Is it Stevie Nicks?” “What? No.” “Linda Ronstadt?” “No.” She bounces a little on the mattress. “Is it Jenna Jameson?” “Good god, Syd.” I move forward and take her glass, then place it with mine on the nightstand. She says, “You didn't drink any of your wine. Did you—”
